Dragonfly

Life, I patiently adore you
through me, touch this petal for you—
find here more than beauty
out of reach

Though I can't help but notice
this turquoise dragonfly—
upside down, not moving at my feet

Thanks for fields of poppies
that I run through, eyes closed tightly
touching all their hearts with fingertips

But I can not, not question
ever trust again their fragrance
when my wonder rises high
and spirit dips

Oh, I'm not afraid to die
for I know that dragonflies
lively pattern can't just be all gone

Nor am I opposed to living
like that fragile flower giving
more than four petals or wings
depended on

As I lingered open minded
way within, no longer blinded
like when glare disguises softness
of the sun

I sure found me there surrounded
by what eyes can't see, compounded
where that petal, dragonfly, and I
are one
